Teasing my son one day as I painted this picture I said, “I’m naming this painting after you, the crab.” He didn’t like the idea but my sister Terri said she’d be honored to be named after the crabapple tree. This is so like Terri. I think the tree “fits” her personality. Usually this tree is quiet and is happy to serve as shade for those in the garden but for about a week in the Spring this tree puts forth the most wonderful splendor of blooms right outside my kitchen window. Then again, in the Fall this tree produces tiny red apples that look more like cherries than apples. The effect is stunning. Terri is like the tree- not a crab, but happy to be useful to others. That’s not to say that there aren’t times when she, like the tree, does something that demands our attention.
