I’ve been involved in some kind of art for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid I was painting or finding some kind of craft to do. I have to be creative in some way or I start going crazy.
I started with painting and used different mediums such as acrylics, watercolors, oils, and pastels. I am always looking for something new to learn. Eventually I wanted to do something more 3D and tried clay and basket weaving but found that just was not my thing. A few years back I tried a glass bead class, lampworking, with a friend. But at that time I didn’t feel it was right for me yet. I went on to jewelry using metals and stones. I have always loved stones, shells and any little thing I could pick up while out in nature. I have lots of little collections of stones plant pods , shells and things like that, which I am always to trying to figure out what they can become. That creative part is always the hardest part. But when you figure it out, it brings the biggest joy. Then a jewelry supply store near me had a glass bead class and I decided to try it again. This time I found my calling. Working with the flame is the biggest hurdle to get past, but once you do the real fun and creativity starts. I have been lampworking for years now and continue to grow and learn. That is one of the best parts of working with glass, the never ending learning curve. There is always something new to try. Such as a new glass that you just have to work with. You start experimenting and learning what it can do. There are also many times of frustration, and a lot of wasted glass that you just can’t get to work right. But in the end, something new almost always comes from it. New directions. New possibilities. I am always looking for classes and inspiration to push my work further. Seeing the work of other glass artists always fuels me with new ideas with my own work in glass beads and jewelry. I combine my love of glass with my love of jewelry. I’m always trying to find the next best thing, and weave in natural forms or my collection of nature items. Artist Bio |
